RIM Unveils BlackBerry PlayBook

Finally RIM Unveils the most awaited BlackBerry PlayBook:

BlackBerry maker Research In Motion unveiled the long-rumoured 7-inch tablet overnight, plus a new operating system, at its developer conference, DevCon, in San Francisco. Telstra will be one of the first local telcos to trial the machine when it becomes available in Australia but the telco has set its sights on the 3G version.

RIM has only released a WiFi version of PlayBook. It has Bluetooth but needs to connect to a BlackBerry smartphone to access a mobile network.

RIM said it intends to offer 3G and 4G models "in future".

RIM emphasized the PlayBook's "uncompromised" Web browsing experience -- which, unlike the iPad, supports Adobe's widely-used Flash multimedia software -- as well as the tablet's security.

RIM expects to ship the device to corporate customers and developers in October, and to consumers starting early in 2011, meaning it will miss a crucial sales window in the holiday buying season. In the meantime, many competing tablets are expected to hit the market.

The company also did not reveal how much it would charge for the PlayBook, and pricing could be an important factor in its adoption.

Future of Internet----Web Personalization

I like Chinese food but my sister is a big fan of Italian food. When we were kids we used to fight before going to any restaurant. She always preferred to eat pasta and I used to force her to eat manchurian. In the end we both were forced to eat in an Indian restaurant of my parents’ choice or any one of us had to compromise as we were not able to make any unanimous decision. But nowadays my father has found a solution. We go to food court in a mall where we get all stuffs Chinese, Italian and Indian at one place without compromising ourselves. These days no one wants to compromise and one tries to customize everything according to ones taste like whether it is ones room or ones bike , So why not our social networking site or why not my search engine gives me the result which I like or want without entering any term. These questions cause Web personalization to come into the market. Web personalization means providing information to different tastes of people at one place like food court. It is very simple and cheap to develop a website; any company can do it but to make the difference Web personalization comes into existence. If you search Wikipedia for a term “personalization” you will get following definition "Personalization involves using technology to accommodate the differences between individuals". Each individual has different tastes and needs, so personalization means organizing all the information in more logical way and in such a way that an user can find things easily and in the way he wants.

Now we shall discuss how personalization is used these days in websites:

  • When you open google news it will give you only your regional news (Ex. India for Indian Users.) You have nowhere mentioned which country you belong to.
  • When you go to amazon.com it gives you suggestion what product you may want to buy?
  • Job portals offer you jobs from your city.
  • You can select your own orkut theme for your profile.
  • MyYahoo in which you design your own dashboard.
  • You get friend suggestions in Facebook.
  • You get your recommended videos in YouTube.

Have you ever think how these Facebook guys know my friends?

How come YouTube can give you suggestion of your favorite video without asking you anything?

Before answering these questions, I will tell you different types of personalization. If you search on web you will get various divisions of personalization, but, when I was doing my collage project work on web personalization with my friend Paul, we concluded that it could be divided into 2 simple types, Automated personalization and Manual personalization. Manual personalization means the user will directly tell what he wants. For Example user will manually tell what theme he wants to use in orkut. And automatic personalization is without directly asking from the user the web site will provide him information, like friend suggestion in Facebook. Implementing manual personalization is simple as we get direct input from the user. But complexity of automatic personalization differs, as we have to implement different algorithms to produce desired output. I will give you an example. Have you seen recommended videos in you tube. This section will provide you the videos which you may like. So, for generating this output an algorithm is written which performs the following tasks:

  • It will consider your last searches on the website. As it is highly probable that you will search things which you like.
  • It will scan your favorite videos which you have already added and then try to find out similar videos, like if in your favorite videos there are many songs of Ricky Martin then there is high probability that you may like his other songs too.
  • Now as YouTube and Orkut belong to same company, YouTube can access Orkut’s data. In orkut we have profiles in which we have favorite songs and favorite movies sections. So from these sections we can suggest what a user likes.

There can be many more criteria, but these are all I can think. Now using this information algorithm will calculate user’s favorite videos.

This automatic personalization algorithm is little bit complex. I will give you one more example. I have observed that in YahooMail people of age between 20-30 get matrimonial ads on the website. As it is highly probable that they want to find their partners and they will click that ad. Similarly in Facebook we get friend suggestion. This can be done by finding common friends. It is highly probable that if you have more number of common friends with one person then the person may be your friend. It can also check that if you are from same college or school then the person can be your friend. There may be many more criteria which they (Facebook/Youtube) are using.

This is how they implement personalization on their sites. It is something big these days. This is the reason why web 3.0 is about personalization.

Can any year be Worst than Year 2008 For Indian Economy, Politics, Humanity and mankind?

The year 2008, which start on Positive note with the good memories of year 2007 which made us proud to be Indian. Every thing was on Boom, the Indian economy was on peak with GDP for Fiscal year 2007 touching 9.4. India has become the Favorite destination for foreign institutional (FIIs) causing Dalal street to Cheers. Due to this bull rally 4 Indians have enter in top 10 richest men on world. Indian IT was at its peak and everything was expanding at fast rate. But year 2008 was marked by unprecedented events that took the Indian economy and almost all global markets by surprise. The failure to predict the downside was unanimous. In the first half of 2008, the Indian economy felled victim to high oil prices, which translated into higher trade deficit, weaker rupee, higher inflation, higher subsidy burden, higher fiscal deficit, and lower growth. In the second half of 2008, the economy felt the impact of the global financial turmoil. The situation deteriorated further when foreign institutional investors (FIIs) began unwinding their investments in emerging markets, including India, in the wake of the liquidity crisis. This led to tightening liquidity, crashing commodity prices, and slowdown in demand. As a result, the estimated GDP growth rate has come down from above 8 per cent to about 6 per cent for FY 2008-09. The Market has become the Bear run causing BSE index to drop from his peak of 21k to less than 8k in November. This year has become the WORST YEAR for Indian Economy.

The story needs to be retold, in 2008, fear rhymed with terror, and India was the site where they achieved a deadly symmetry with a inauguration at the land of Jaipur royals, then Ahmedabad, Surat, Delhi… and then flaming finale with Mumbai Indians. The worst thing for humanity and mankind is people are in fear. After watching all this series of blast every Indian is thinking “Will I die a natural death..??” .We are left with nothing but our fears—and a heap of ironies. As the victim, from behind the door in a luxury suite or in a crowded railway station or walking on road or worship for GOD or sitting in house, trembled in the fear of death, the killer feared nothing but his god. For the jihadi, death is a one-way ticket to a paradise full of fun. In 2008, there was no equality in the power of fear. Indians were always targeted by jihadies but this year was at the peak with series of blasts. The Mumbai attack was biggest attack on Indian soil which has raised BIG question on Indian Security. This Blast is a wake Up call for all of us, the sound of this attack has wake up the paralysis government and forced them to reorder the structure of Indian security and politics. This attack has also created a cold war between India and Pakistan as few Pakistan link has been found. So due to this terror and fear this year has become the WORST YEAR for Indian humanity and mankind

Now the worst year for politics, the politician have tough time, fighting and blaming each other on issues like terrorism, nuclear deal etc and its consequences provided the people the much needed 8-10 pm melodrama replacing the daily soaps. Now this year instead of fighting on Hindu Muslim, they have got a new topic Marathi and not Marathi. The Bal Thackeray in desire to pull his struggling career on path used the muscle power of his men against the innocent migrants of North India specially UP and Bihar.

The biggest and shameless dirty game played by over netas which has raced a big question mark on India democracy “cash for vote scam”.It is shame and disgrace for the largest democracy and its leaders.

The other major event in which over self claimed messiah Mamata Banerjee necked out the Nano project from West Bengal. The dream project of every lower and middle class Indian was delayed due to dirty politics by fee leaders. But at the end realised, too much anti public hungama for votes and fame does not work every time!!So by few dirty politics and cash for vote scams we can conclude it as worst year in Indian politics.

Hopefully, the new year marks emergence of new age India, which understands its priorities vividly.
